In 2022, I read 52 books and The Island of Missing Trees is one of my favourite reads from that year. I made this illustration from one of my favourite scenes quoted above. I wanted to use this scene to explore the magic realism style that the book had, as well as portray the ethereal yet somewhat still grounded feeling throughout the story. I'm quite happy with the dream-like result that I've got by experimenting and layering different effects in After Effects.
